Little Indian Movies

Hello,

So a few months ago, the brilliantly talented Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anand Tiwari and I sat down and starting discussing old comedies, in India and abroad. The old Rishikesh Mukherjee/ Woody Allen worlds that we rarely get to see now. Little stories, of lovers, of small ambition, of middle managers, of impressing an in law, of petty victories. In one Rishikesh Mukherjee film, a man gets taken seriously for just having a moustache. And not when he doesn’t have it. These films were Seinfeldian in their scope but epic in their capturing of the human condition.

In a backdrop of a new comedy wave in India that looks at things ‘at the India level’, of politics, of Bollywood and 24/7 TV news, we thought it would be fun to step back into the old, to step away from the noise of the great grand India problems and focus on something a little more minute- the average Indian character and his daily average problems. Updated from the time of Amol Palekar and Woody Allen into the world of Whatsapp, Instagram and I-Phones. Though not losing the core the characters core dramatic conflict which we hope is timeless.

These two ingeniously talented actor/ directors whom I had the good fortune of meeting and collaborating on The President Is Coming often talked of how we haven’t collaborated since then.

Well we decided to change that and with our producers at OML, bring you scenes from Indian life, characters from Indian life. Conflicts and people we hope you recognize and within it, laugh at our absurdities.

We bring you

Little Indian Movies.

A monthly short film series of comedies.

We hope you watch and share.

This is our first.

See you next month.

Thank you,

Anuvab
